Self Help Groups (SHG)
Self help groups are necessary to overcome exploitation, create confidence for the economic self-reliance of rural poor particularly in women who are mostly invisible in the social structure. These groups enable them to come together for a common objective and gain strength from each other to deal with exploitation, which they face, in several forms. It also helps building of relationship of mutual trust between the Promoting organization and the rural poor ghrough constant contact and genuine efforts.
'Mutual Help' in agriculture or household matters, in an important characteristic of the rural community in India. The rural poor, with the intermediation of Voluntary Agencies also join for self-help to secure better economic growth. Self-Help Groups in the country mobilize savings and recycle the resources generated among members.
It gives us great satisfaction to point that SHGs have spread their network in very difficult and needy area and, through this programme; they have been able to able to achieve, in some measure, their economic empowerment.
Formation of groups, by itself, is a very healthy process for breaking isolation of the individual women who now suffer alone. Self help groups become significant agents for bringing about changes in the lives of the members.
